Austin police are investigating a homicide after officers found a man dead Sunday evening near the Mueller area in East Austin. Police were dispatched to the 4700 block of Loyola Lane around 5:07 p.m. on a “shoot/stab hotshot” call after a report of shots fired.
Officers arrived about 5:10 p.m. and located an adult man in his 40s with injuries police described as “incompatible with life.” The man was pronounced dead at about 5:28 p.m. Austin police said detectives and crime scene investigators are canvassing the area for witnesses and working to gather evidence; police said no security camera footage was available at the time of the initial update. No suspect information has been released.
The killing is Austin’s 16th homicide of 2026. Citywide, homicides fell last year, with 55 recorded in 2025—down 25% from 2024 and far below the 2021 peak, according to Austincurrent.
